Amazing McNeil Families,
Welcome to McNeil Elementary for the 2024-2025 school year! We look forward to seeing everyone Saturday, August 3, at our annual Community Block Party. I have included lots of important dates and information below that I hope helps you get organized and ready for a new school year!
Our theme this year is
McNeil...you are home!
We are so excited for a new year and the opportunity to serve your family and welcome you. One of the things we are looking forward to is creating a strong home-school partnership with you to ensure the experience is successful not only for your child, but for your whole family.
At McNeil, we focus first on building relationships. Having students feel safe and welcome is the foundation to their learning. We will strive to make a positive impact every day and ensuring every one of our students builds strong connections with our staff and their peers. It is also our goal to build strong connections with you--our families. We look forward to getting to know you and partnering with you.
Academically, we focus on growth for every child. We teach the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Every student will be instructed in their grade level TEKS, but we go beyond this into small group time and differentiation where we focus on growing your child’s specific skills, whether through intervention or acceleration. Ultimately, it is our goal to develop the whole child: academically, emotionally, socially, and physically to build skills that will be used for a lifetime.
We believe in maintaining open, two-way communication with our families. This year, the elementary school day will be extended by 3 minutes. Therefore, our Mustangs' instructional day will be from 8 a.m. - 3:10 p.m. McKinney ISD is also moving to a new district-wide communication platform with Thrillshare/Apptegy. More details to come. Please make sure your contact information is up to date so you can receive important announcements and updates. Throughout the year, your teacher will stay in contact with you through conferences, phone calls, email, newsletters, Seesaw (K-2) and Canvas (3-5). Every Sunday we will send out our Pony Express -- our parent newsletter with information about school-wide activities for the upcoming week, events that will be coming up in the next few weeks, and district news. Be sure to follow us on social media on our McNeil Elementary website, McNeil Elementary Facebook page, and on Twitter @McNeilElem. Links are below.
Another key to our success is strong parent involvement. First, we encourage you to join our McNeil PTO. Our amazing McNeil PTO is 100% focused on helping to support our students. Second, please volunteer! There are many volunteer opportunities, and you sign up where it works for your schedule. No matter who you are, what your skill set is, or how much time you have to offer, we can always find a way for you to be involved. Please also follow our McNeil PTO on social media on the McNeil PTO website, McNeil PTO Facebook page, and on Twitter @McNeil_PTO.
We want to personally thank you for your ongoing support as a parent and community member. Your feedback is valuable, important, and necessary. You are a partner in this process with us as we set out to provide the best education possible for our McNeil Mustangs.
With much excitement,
