ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL
Procedures for Arrival
First day of school - All students may report directly to their classrooms between 7:15 - 7:50am. Family members are welcome to walk students to class on the first day of school.
Announcements begin at 7:55am each day.
AFTER the first day - Please follow these procedures:
Morning Drop Off (7:30-7:50 AM): Teachers will review arrival procedures with students on the first day. Please allow enough time to get through the carpool line so your child can be in their classroom, ready to learn by 8:00AM. Ideally, for a positive start to their school day, students should be in their seats by 7:55AM daily to participate in live video morning announcements.
Carpool/Car riders - Back carpool line is supervised for morning drop off. Adults should NOT exit their vehicle in
the drop-off line. Do not use the front drive for drop off, this is reserved for bus and day care transportation only.
Due to staff needing to supervise students, the back doors will close and lock at 8:00AM. Students arriving after 8:00AM will need to go through the front main doors. These students will also be marked tardy.
Busers - Bus riders will utilize the front drive for dropping off students. Students deboarding the bus will be directed towards the front main doors.
Walkers, Bikers, Scooters - Walkers, bikers and scooters should utilize the sidewalks once on campus grounds.
Students should not be in the parking lots or drives at any time without direct supervision of an adult.
Students who are walkers, bikers, or scooters may enter the building through the front main doors. Front doors will open with supervision at 7:30am.
Parents/Guardians who wish to walk their student into school may do so by means of the front main doors. Parents/Guardians must park their vehicle and walk their student to the main entrance. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to say good-bye to the student before entering the building and letting their student walk through the front doors on their own.
Breakfast - Breakfast this year is free. Please see the MISD website regarding free/reduced/paid meals. If eating breakfast, students should go directly to the cafeteria upon arrival during the 7:30-7:55 time period to pick up breakfast before heading to their classrooms.
For students not choosing to have breakfast, students must directly report to grade level classroom areas as assigned by teachers and follow grade level procedures.
Morning Drop Off (7:50-7:59 AM):
Carpool/Car riders - The back doors do lock at 7:50 AM, as teachers who are on duty move back to classrooms to oversee their students.
At this time, students may be dropped off in the front drive and enter through the main doors in front.
Tardies – Students are considered tardy if they are not in the building at 8:00AM.
On the rare occasion that you must drop your child off before 7:30AM, we have one staff member to supervise students in the cafeteria at 7:15AM - these students must be dropped off through the back carpool lane and enter through the back entrance. Do not drop your child off at school prior to 7:15AM as there will not be staff members on duty to provide proper supervision. Please note, the contract day starts at 7:30AM for staff, thus your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

If you wish to change your child’s dismissal routine for any reason., you must complete the transportation change request form (also located on the Press website, as well as in the weekly school newsletters) and indicate the change in routine by 2:35 PM. We value safety and want to honor your request. However, if you do not submit your child’s dismissal change request prior to 2:30PM to change the routine, your child will likely be dismissed as per regular routine.
Early Pickups:
If picking up a student before the end of the school day, parents/guardians must enter the building in order to check their student out. Parents/Guardians must have a physical state-issued identification card to enter the building. Pictures of identification cards on mobile devices are not accepted. Upon parent/guardian arrival for pickup, students will be called down to the front office. To ensure best instructional practices, students will not be called down early to the office to wait for parent/guardian to pick them up.
Due to dismissal protocols and safety precautions to ensure all students make it home safely each day, early pickups are not allowed after 2:35 PM. For extenuating circumstance, after 2:35 PM, there could be delays in locating students as they engage in end of day and dismissal procedures.
Late Pickups:
Students must be picked up by 3:10 PM. If you are unable to pick up by 3:10 PM, on-site child care is available through MISD’s Club 360 and multiple local child care facilities provide transportation directly from school. Unfortunately, Press staff is not readily available to supervise students who are left past dismissal. Due to staff not being available to supervise students not picked up on time, the McKinney police department may be contacted to provide appropriate supervision of students left at school with no parent or guardian. Of course, if you have an extenuating circumstance, please call ahead to alert the front office staff and contact the classroom teacher. We will do our best to accommodate occasional extenuating situations.
