McKinney, Texas - McKinney ISD is pleased to announce that Slaughter Elementary Assistant Principal Cyndy Bice has been chosen as the next principal of Slaughter Elementary. The decision follows the retirement of longtime Slaughter Principal Nick DeFelice.
Bice brings 25 years in education to the position, with more than 10 years of experience in leadership and more than two decades invested in the students and families of Slaughter Elementary.
“Mrs. Bice brings a wealth of experience in education, a passion for student success, and a commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and inspiring learning environment for all,” said MISD Superintendent Shawn Pratt. “We are confident that she will be a fantastic leader for our Slaughter students, staff and families.”
Bice began her career as a classroom teacher in Melissa ISD for one year before joining the staff of Slaughter Elementary in 2001 where she would serve for the next 13 years. She moved into campus leadership as an instructional resource specialist in Lovejoy ISD for two years but returned home in 2016 as an instructional coach at Slaughter where she supported professional growth and led initiatives to improve student achievement through data-driven instructional practices.
In 2020, Bice took on a broader campus leadership role as assistant principal on DeFelice’s administrative team. Now, she takes the next step in her journey in education, leading the school in which she has invested virtually her entire career.
“Stepping into the role of principal at the campus where I began my career feels like a full-circle moment," said Bice. "I’m honored to continue the work we’ve started and lead the school community that has meant so much to me over the years.”
Bice earned her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies/elementary education from Texas A&M University—Commerce and her master’s degree in educational administration from Lamar University.
