McKinney, Texas – UIL released its always highly anticipated competition realignment lists on Thursday, February 1, 2024, and the new groupings bring a fresh mix of competition for the football programs at McKinney High School, McKinney Boyd and McKinney North.
Volleyball and basketball at MHS and McKinney Boyd will fall into the same alignment as football, but little has changed for North volleyball and basketball as their district remains largely intact from its previous iteration.

In District 5-5A football, McKinney North gets a reprieve from the road trips to Tyler, Lufkin and Longview that they’ve endured for the past two years and gain a new district made up almost entirely of Frisco schools: Frisco, Frisco Centennial, Frisco Heritage, Frisco Lebanon Trail, Frisco Lone Star, Frisco Reedy, Frisco Wakeland, McKinney North and Sherman

“We are excited about the new UIL alignments,” said MISD Director of Athletics Jennifer Frazier. “The alignment that impacted us the most was our McKinney North football district and the travel we have experienced during their district play. The new alignment will minimize our travel, and this will benefit our student athletes tremendously. We are grateful the UIL aligned us with schools that are closer geographically.”
Meanwhile, in District 6-6A football, McKinney High School and McKinney Boyd land in a new district that brings back some old foes from Plano as well as newcomers Princeton: Allen, McKinney, McKinney Boyd, Plano, Plano East, Plano West, Princeton, Prosper and Prosper Rock Hill.

“We were also pleased with the district we were assigned to for McKinney Boyd High School and McKinney High School,” Frazier said. “We have history competing with Prosper, Allen and Plano, so with the addition of Princeton High School, we believe it will be another great district with high level competition. As further alignments are released, we will continue to communicate our new districts with the community.”

For McKinney High School and McKinney Boyd in 6A, new football district alignments will carry over to the volleyball and basketball programs as well, but for volleyball and basketball at North, their district alignment remains largely unchanged with Prosper Walnut Grove the only new addition to replace the departing Princeton: Anna, Denison, Greenville, Lovejoy, McKinney North, Melissa, Prosper Walnut Grove and Sherman.
