Principal holderman greeting parents and children at the door

McKinney, Texas – As students and parents arrived at Ruth and Harold Frazier Elementary on the morning of August 9, the muggy, early morning heat couldn’t stifle the excitement of walking through the doors to start a new school year for the first time in the school’s history.

As they made their way along the winding sidewalk to the school’s entry, students and parents stopped for photos and were greeted by McKinney ISD Superintendent Shawn Pratt, Principal Amy Holderman, members of the MISD Board of Trustees, a sturdy soul in the school’s gator mascot costume—and a host of enthusiastic Frazier teachers and staff.

Parents and students soon arrived at classrooms where there were quick hugs before the kids were off to find their desks and parents lingered at the doorway for just a moment more before eventually moving back down the hall to the main corridor.

The big event of the morning was to be the school’s inaugural flag raising ceremony, and soon everyone, including parents, were back outside, at the front of the building where they were joined by the board of trustees and three members of the Frazier family—Linnet Frazier Deily, Claude Frazier and Pat Frazier—and longtime friend of the Fraziers, Carolyn Corbin. Holderman provided a characteristically energetic welcome and then a contingent of scouts performed the flag-raising duties.

“It’s wonderful to be here today for the opening of Ruth and Harold Frazier Elementary School,” said Linnet Frazier Deily, daughter of Ruth and Harold Frazier, after the ceremony. “My parents were devoted educators, and their farm was adjacent to this property. They were pioneers of this part of the country, so it’s wonderful to have this recognition for them.”
