Judy Mercer

McKinney, Texas - McKinney ISD is pleased to announce that longtime McKinney ISD educator and instructional leader Judy Mercer has been named the district’s new director of professional learning. With 27 years in education, including 24 in MISD, Mercer brings experience at both the elementary and secondary levels to her new role. 

Mercer’s extensive teaching background in MISD includes time at Walker Elementary and Bennett Elementary. In 2010, she moved to the secondary level as a classroom teacher at Cockrill Middle School. But, for the past 8 years, she has served as an instructional coach and Reading/Language Arts department chair at Cockrill, and she has served for 6 years as the school’s MTSS coordinator.  

During her time at Cockrill, Mercer has proved to be instrumental in the implementation of key campus and district initiatives through targeted coaching and professional development. At the district level, Mercer has contributed to the MISD Professional Learning Community (PLC) Design Team and Comprehensive Professional Learning Design Team. 

"I am thrilled and honored to continue serving the students and staff of McKinney ISD,” said Mercer. “My true passion lies in supporting educators and crafting meaningful professional learning experiences that make a lasting impact. Our mission to reach every student, every day is achieved through the hard work of our classroom teachers, and I look forward to supporting them in this new role.”

Mercer holds a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M Commerce. She and her husband, a retired McKinney firefighter, are proud parents of three McKinney ISD graduates.
