McKinney, Texas — Hello! My name is Amy Dankel, and I serve as the McKinney ISD School Board Vice President.

Each month, after our board meeting, we will provide our community with a brief summary of events and items covered during the meeting.

We started the October meeting with celebrations and recognitions.

Board member Harvey Oaxaca received a special recognition for his “Volunteer McKinney 25 Years of Service” award. Representative Frederick Frazier was at the meeting to present him with his award.

Next we moved on to Superintendent Pratt’s “We Are McKinney” award.

This award recognizes McKinney ISD staff members who are going above and beyond for every student, every day. This month’s winners are Jen Breazeale from McGowen Elementary and Derrick Jeter from Cockrill Middle School.

We also honored the Paraprofessionals of the Month for October. Our elementary winner is Patricia Repp from McNeil Elementary. Our secondary winner is Carmen Koch from McKinney North High School.

Next we celebrated the “Every Student, Every Day” award winners for this month.

From Eddins Elementary we honored Jacob Beckham, and from Webb Elementary we celebrated Zachary Funkhouser.

Cockrill Middle School received the “McKinney ISD Lives Kind” award for their work centered around their Cowboy Creed.

All three of McKinney’s high schools received the AP Honor Roll award, and our three high school principals were there to accept their certificate.

We recognized the National Math Stars. There were only 60 National Math Stars in the state of Texas, and McKinney ISD has 3 of them. We celebrated Katherine Derkachova from Frazier Elementary, Bethel Yrgalem from Valley Creek Elementary, and Patrick Parkhurst from Walker Elementary.

We then moved on to the presentation portion of the meeting.

A representative from Eide Bailly presented to the Board the 2023-2024 Annual Financial Audit.

Becky Jackson, Director of Data and Analytics, shared the beginning of the year MAP update.

Alana Chisum, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, provided a strategic plan update for pillar 3: High Quality Staff.

Dr. Dennis Womack, Assistant Superintendent of Business Operations, presented the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) update.

We then moved into the consent agenda and discussion-action portions of the meeting.

Dr. Womack also shared the 2024 Certified Tax Roll Adoption, and the Board accepted.

An overview of our McKinney ISD title programs, compensatory education, and the district and campus improvement plans were presented by members of the School Leadership department, which included Jennifer Akins, Molly Hovan, and Jeff Banner. The Board moved to accept the district and campus improvement plans as presented.

The Board then reviewed and approved the monthly written reports.

Those are the highlights from this month’s meeting. Thank you for watching, and we look forward to bringing you the highlights from our next regularly scheduled board meeting on November 18 at 6 p.m.
