McKinney, Texas - McKinney ISD announced at its January Board of Trustees meeting that the district has hired Stu Johnson to serve as the new head football coach of McKinney Boyd High School. Johnson brings 21 years of coaching experience and a strong record of success to his new position.
“We are thrilled to add Stu Johnson to our athletic family as our new McKinney Boyd Head Football coach,” said MISD Director of Athletics Jennifer Frazier. “He brings a high level of excellence and excitement in the way he coaches the game of football, both on and off the field. His passion and commitment to running an athletic program is evident in his attention to detail and his enthusiasm to connect with athletes so that they achieve their desired potential. We anticipate great things under Coach Johnson’s leadership. He is a proven winner and we are confident he will accomplish some incredible things at McKinney Boyd.”
Johnson’s journey as a coach is rooted in his time as a collegiate athlete at Wabash College in Indiana, where he was a captain of the football team. After earning his degree, Johnson pursued his passion for football as a player in Sydney, Australia and Stockholm, Sweden. But, it was in leading others that Johnson would find his true calling, and he returned to Wabash to launch his coaching career. He went on to serve as a graduate assistant at Purdue University before his arrival in Texas, where he has served as a teacher and coach for 18 years.
For the past 6 years, he has been the defensive coordinator and college recruiting coordinator at Lewisville High School. The results during that time have been impressive. In 2022, the Farmers, led by the defense, made a deep playoff run to the State Quarterfinals and finished the season #3 in scoring defense and #6 in total defense in D/FW. The following season saw even stronger numbers as the Farmers’ defense rose to #1 in scoring defense and #3 in total defense in D/FW.
But, Johnson’s impact during his time in Lewisville has extended beyond high school as he has helped more than 65 student-athletes continue their academic and football careers at the collegiate level. Now, he brings his expertise and passion to McKinney Boyd High School.
“I am beyond excited and truly honored to join McKinney Boyd High School and serve this amazing community,” Johnson said. “Together, we will build upon the tradition of excellence, inspire our student-athletes to reach their full potential and cultivate a championship culture that will provide our student-athletes with the tools they need to be elite competitors now and for life beyond the game. Our mission will be to make McKinney Boyd athletics one of the most rewarding and incredible experiences of a young person’s life. Go Broncos!”
Johnson holds a bachelor's degree in political science and economics along with a master’s degree in sports administration. He has been married to his wife Priya for 8 years, and they have two sons, Rowan (4) and Asher (1).
