McKinney, Texas — The 62 guests stepping off of two MISD buses were met by a cheering crowd of students at Malvern Elementary and later, a drum line escort at McKinney High School, as they took part in the 2025 edition of the MISD Tour on Friday, March 14.
The always highly anticipated annual tour, (formerly known as the MISD Senior Adult Tour) is now in its 15th year and gives MISD campuses the opportunity to showcase the accomplishments of their students and to spotlight specific programs for members of our McKinney community. It's a glimpse into the great things happening in MISD.
The tour guests were accompanied by Superintendent Shawn Pratt, MISD School Board members Larry Jagours, Harvey Oaxaca and Amy Dankel, as well as other district leaders.
The first stop was Malvern Elementary, where guests were treated to a special program in the gym and a tour of classes throughout the school. There, they observed lessons in action and engaged with students about their work.
Then it was off to MHS where they were greeted by the drum line as well as student leaders and members of the MHS Marquettes. They enjoyed lunch in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center with students while members of the MHS orchestra played a selection of music in the background.
And, then they were whisked away by student guides for a classroom tour of Career and Technical Education programs such as welding, cosmetology, animal science, robotics and construction/woodworking before wrapping up in the school's beautiful performance hall with a Fine Arts showcase and presentation of colors by the award-winning Color Guard of the Marine Corps JROTC program.
"I enjoyed every minute of the tour," said participant Cheryl Hargrove. "It was an opportunity into just a little bit of what goes on in our schools, and the great programs that are offered. Wow! I raved about the tour to several people. I might sign up again next year too."
Another first time participant offered feedback as well, "This was my first time visiting those schools, and I was truly impressed by the staff, students, administration and the incredible programs offered. The McKinney High programs, in particular, were eye-opening, and I gained a much deeper understanding of the opportunities available to students."
