Grace Stephens, former McKinney High Marquette, named Lieutenant of the World Famous Kilgore College Rangerettes!
Currently in their 85th year, the Kilgore College Rangerettes are world-renowned for their high kicks and the distinction of being the very first dance and drill team. They have performed for multiple U.S. presidents and around the world and are the subject of the "Sweethearts of the Gridiron" documentary which chronicles their proud history. Alumni from each of the three MISD high schools have been numbered among the revered ranks of the Rangerettes, but Grace Stephens is only the second dancer from MISD to achieve the position of Rangerette officer since Roxa Joplin did it in 1966! Congratulations and well done, Grace! (Pictured is Grace Stephens (right) performing during officer tryout.)

At Reuben Johnson Elementary, they say that they are "Four Houses, One Family," and on Friday, Aug. 2, Principal Kristen Patterson, AP Ebonie Walls and the RJE staff (along with help from MHS cheerleaders) held their 2nd annual RJE House Sorting Rally to place new students in the house of Dominium (Purple), Consequi (Blue), Paratus (Green) or Integritas (Red). Each student received a bracelet and a shirt—and an instant point of connection with other RJE students throughout the school! Check out more photos of the fun on the MISD Facebook page!

MISD school namesake Fanny Finch (1866-1941) was a remarkable, longtime McKinney educator who became the first woman to serve on a school board in Texas. Her influence and leadership brought libraries, restrooms and playgrounds to the city's schools, and in 1924, the school board, in response to a petition from the community, changed the name of South Ward Elementary to Fanny Finch Elementary. 100 years later, Finch's legacy lives on in the school that still bears her name. On Aug. 5, Principal Erika Echegaray, Asst. Principal Mike Allen and the Finch staff were joined by former Finch Principal Becky Hoffman and former AP Lisa Paine for a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of MISD's Finch refresh project and to celebrate a new chapter in the life of Finch Elementary!
