This week our third and fourth graders dove into the world of coding and Lego. They were treated to a first taste of what future science lessons will hold. As we dive deeper into curriculum this year, students will be guided through more STEAM oriented lessons. They have already enjoyed hands on activities through our new curriculum Hand2Mind and SAAVAS. The next phase includes Lego Spike Essentials.
In their introductory lesson this week, students brainstormed ways to care for the materials in their classrooms, how to organize the materials, and gained an understanding of the value of this investment. Students also began working through tutorials. These guided the students in how to connect the "Hub" to their laptops through bluetooth, connecting and coding a motor, light sensor, and LED light. At the end, students could explore the features using a scavenger hunt.
In future lessons, teachers will lead students through lessons that connect with their science units to apply engineering principals to content from the curriculum. We can't wait to see what our future scientists and engineers design!
