McKinney, Texas — McKinney Independent School District has committed to use Ramsey Education’s “Foundations in Personal Finance” curriculum for the 2024-2028 school years. Ramsey Education is a leader in the personal finance education space. McKinney ISD’s commitment meets the requirements of Proclamation 2024 for the district’s Personal Financial Literacy and Economics course.
McKinney ISD wants to ensure all high school seniors have access to the “Foundations” course prior to graduation as it supports their goal for graduates to be financially literate.
“I’ve listened and read a lot of Dave Ramsey’s materials, and the principles he and Ramsey Education teaches are a no brainer,” said Shawn Pratt, McKinney ISD Superintendent. “Our goal with the 'Foundations' curriculum is our students walk out of here equipped with a plan and know how to have a budget, whether they’re going into the workforce immediately to help support their family or whether they’re going to college.”
According to Ramsey Solutions’ The Financial Literacy Crisis in America: 2023 Report, 88 percent of U.S. adults said high school did not leave them fully prepared to handle money in the real world. In addition, 73 percent of U.S. adults said they would be further ahead with their money today if they had taken a personal finance class in high school.
“We’re very excited to be working with McKinney ISD,” said Jim King, executive vice president of Ramsey Education. “Their beliefs about student outcomes and financial stewardship mirror what our team strives for every day. We’re thankful McKinney ISD students will have the chance to learn solid financial principles.”

Proclamation 2024 was announced by the Texas State Board of Education in April 2022. The mandate requires updated instructional materials and TEKS requirements for Texas schools and programs starting in the 2024-25 school year.
About Ramsey Education
Ramsey Education was created more than 20 years ago in response to this common statement about personal finance: I wish I’d learned this in high school! In 2008, Ramsey Solutions developed “Foundations in Personal Finance,” a personal finance curriculum for high school students that has since impacted the lives of over 7 million students. With additional personal finance curriculum for higher education institutions and a high school entrepreneurship curriculum, Ramsey Education wants to see every student in America enter adulthood with the knowledge and skills to handle money confidently and ultimately to live up to their full potential.
