As part of a districtwide STEAM initiative, our campus was provided with brand new LEGO Essential Spike coding kits! The LEGO Education website provides building directions, teacher lesson plans, and block coding tools. Students will get to build and then program their creation to move, light up, or make sounds via Bluetooth connection.
The Texas Technology Application TEKS have been revised, and these standards include coding, so these new tools come at the perfect time! The LEGO Education lesson plans will be integrated into the grade level curriculum where they best fit to support science standards and the new engineering TEKS.
This week, PTO volunteers partnered with our librarian and Library Media Specialist, Mrs. Colwell, to start the process of setting up the LEGO kits. Next week, all teachers will get a hands-on opportunity to build and code with these kits. Thank you PTO! Get ready students: exciting learning experiences are coming your way!
